Winter Birds: White Pelican
Should you choose to book a Space Coast River Tour during the winter months (December to March), you’ll have the chance to spot the American White Pelican. This large seabird has a knotch and its long bill and a sack for trapping fish.
Favorite hangouts for the American White Pelican include lakes and coastal areas, especially the southeast section of Sykes Creek. Unlike the Brown Pelican, the American White Pelican doesn’t dive bomb for fish, it simply dips its head under water. Once winter ends, the American White Pelican migrates to the Midwestern states.
